June 24 - June 30 Kiawah Beach!
Last week we had a field trip to Kiawah Beach. There is a very unique pod of dolphins there that strand feed. They scare the fish up onto the edge of the beach and catch them. This is our second trip out there and not once have we been able to get a good view of the feeding. We've seen it from a distance but not a very good view. The strand feeding location is about a mile and a half to two miles away from the beach entrance. That's quite a long walk down the beach. We go at low tide which makes it a bit more interesting. Tidal pools catch a lot of neat marine life. There were sea anemone, sea cucumbers, starfish, a lot of whelks and hermit crabs, as well. The kids learned that if you dig into the sand you will find water.
